I have a 7 year old power shower that has broken and needs replacing. I can get a new one from Argos, but how much do you think a plumber will charge to fit it for me. I don’t have combi boiler (so its not an electric one), it runs off my hot water tank and cold water. I would like to attempt it myself, but I just don’t think you can just take an old power shower off and replace it. Thanks
£150 seems steep. I am buying the new power shower myself. All I want it is fitted. Will it really cost this much?

It sounds as though just the pump has gone which is not difficult to replace though if the thermostatic taps have gone this will be more difficult. I would never get a plumber would always have a go my self its all logic. Buy, read the instructions, Understand the terminology and you will cope!!!!
dont pay anymore than £150.
It depends how much of his crack is showing when he bends over.
If all the pipes are staying in the same place you could have ago yourself. Buy copper push fittings form screwfix if you want them cheap or b&q etc but you will pay more.
A plumber is going to charge a call out anything from £50 just to look at the job and then the same per hour . I would budget £150.00 minium. Get 3 or 4 quotes and ask friends who have had plumbing work done. Go by recomendation as far as you can. I git so p*ssed off with plumbers that I taught myself!
Mine cost four hundred and fifty pounds for the pump and the fitting.
Just ring a couple of plumbers, tell them what you want them to do, and can they give you a price
You are not allowed – by Government decree – to do any electrical work yourself, unless you then get a safety check certificate (expensive) from a qualified electrician! A qualified person also has to issue a certificate.
So if you pay for an electrician to do it you may get an additional bill as well!
You should be able to change a power shower for another power shower quite easily if you have basic plumbing and electrical skills. Check out the positioning of the pipes and wires on old/new unit and then work out what needs doing.
It’s then up to you if you get a certificate (plus VAT for Gordon Brown)…………
How much do you think a good plumber will charge you if you are buying from a company that is effectively destroying his industry! Plumbers shop with merchants not just for price but also for service. If your shower is faulty after installation do you really think that Argos will come out to inspect it – get real ! Have you seen the queues in their stores for returned goods ! Do they have the technical back-up – you are their customer, not their suppliers customer and their suppliers may not hav e a company representative either so you really could be up the creek without a paddle. Let your plumber buy the shower but discuss the price with him, after all , if it does go wrong you will expect him to do the running around for you.
