Are there evening classes or is it only possible to get trained through an apprenticeship? What are the best institutions to learn at in London? And what does it take to be a good plumber? Thanks :O)
Thanks Chris, some great advice :O)

an apprenticeship is the best way though it is possible to learn enough through other means to get the skill levels required but much harder.
simply by being a good learner, working safely and competently with a good attitude and not forgetting to learn form your mistakes! by working diligently and being careful one will find a reputation slowly emerges. hopefully of a ‘good’ plumber./ good luck.
I agree with Chris above but would also like to add that your constantly dealing with people so don’t underestimate how much you will be judged on this area particulally if your working in someones house.
How you deal with people, talk to them, explain things, that you are well presented, that your patient, etc will directly effect your business and it could even make the difference between getting by and making a fortune.
My close friend is a Plumber and constantly battles against the terrible reputation they have, and what he does is quite simple:
He turns up on time.
He looks smart
He phones them back when he’s supposed to
He’s extremely honest
And finally he does a good job at a fair price.
If you made these your objectives, if you turned up and did the job right without listening to other Plumbers who might tell you to cut corners and over charge, etc you’d be like my mate who now works only when he wants to.
He has a constant supply of customers who only want him, he get’s jobs big and small, the customers wait until he’s back off holiday and he will retire a very rich man.
Turning up on time will put you a step ahead of most plumbers, there’s an absolute fortune to be made if you do it right so the rest is upto you.
yes an apprenticeship is the best way, but with the economic climate, your be lucky to get one. the courses available take about 9 months and cost up to £20,000 (pick yourself up,Lil) the advantage is only your qualified quicker, but not necessarily ready for some of the problems that come with everyday life, you can check out your local colleges for night school courses, good luck for the future
First learn about what is plumber and then start doing work after you get good experience u will be a good plumber…don’t worry
An Apprenticeship is the best way. Not only can you learn the tricks of the trade, but other plumbing work which a lot of people do not realise, is plumbing work. You will learn, lead burning, manhole construction, Copper to lead joints accepted by the water board, Guttering and downpipe work, Lead flashing, Cast iron pipe joints (lead wool) and much more. All the training schools ever train so called plumbers in, is copper and plastic pipework. You do not find this in every situation. They do not teach how to make lead slates even.
