Phone up people who are building new houses like Wimpey etc. and ask if they are taking on any plumbers. There must be some development going on not far from you.

Don’t use Service Magic. I tried them and they charge you for every lead and most of them don’t lead to any actual work. Their website is set up to get the customer to ask for a free estimate, even if they don’t want the work done right now. There are a few other sites out there that claim to do the same thing, my advice would be to do a lot of research before using them. Do a good job, get in contact with handymen in your area that can refer stuff to you that’s more complicated or involved than they want to do.
Good Luck

The best thing to do is send your information to Mechanical contractors & get them to put you on their list of subbies

If your town or city requires permits for new construction additons etc., ask for a list of permits pulled for the last 30 days or so. Then go to the address and leave a business card on the door.

put your buisness cards up in local diners around town and advertise in the paper.

I have presumed that you wish to make a business of being self employed rather than just a plumber who wishes work to help out another plumbing company and do a few other jobs.
Do a good job at a reasonable cost and the best advert will be word of mouth no matter what or where you are.(Private or Contract clients)
Always answer a message left for you and certainly no later than the following day, never leave it for a few days.
When you secure a job always tell the client the truth never tell the client what you think he wants to hear, this only breaks the trust.
Never do a bad job better you re-do it and make it right. Never underestimate the person you are working for man or woman.
Go out and sell yourself tell the contractor you can plumb the house 1st fix in a day and half and do it even you have to work till late at night to complete, it is important to build up a trust especially with a contractor.
Send either by hand or mail out flyers and tell the private client the same that you can come Friday and complete that day, never start the job and leave it unfinished for whatever time, very few people are interested in your private affairs that stop you from competing your work for them.
Make sure he or she knows what your payment schedule will be so they can budget for it.
Don’t allow yourself to be fooled either by promises of payment that don’t come when you have laid out your terms.
It is building trust on either side, if you do what you said and complete each stage he/she should honor the agreement.
But be aware some one at some time will be difficult even you have done all the right things.
Very best of luck in these difficult times.
By the way if you are registerd for CORGI thats another string to your bow, but the examine is expensive
