You need some pants that are too small for you, a beer belly and make sure your butt crack shows when you bend over.

NVQ Level 2 as a minimum. You can get work based training as an apprentice. If you are a school leaver you can get this paid for by the CAS and your employers will get a CITB grant. Once you have NVQ2 you can progress to NVQ3. You can also train to become CORGI registered. I recommend you also get a SkillsCard when you have qualified.

if you can become a plumber on a six week training course good look but i am afraid with current legislation us employers are a bit more Qued in what we are looking for. i need a plumbing trainee but if you have got for grand to waste go for the course. proper plumbing is such a skilled trade six weeks good luck

city and guilds 6129 will get you onto an nvq2 course.

this is the minimum to work as self employed.

to be registered with the iphe or corgi you need a minimum of 2.5 years experience. they do not accept fast track courses.

you can get work with only the 6129 but you will be paid PEANUTS.

You can stare at books all you want but nothing but actual in field learning from a knowledgable master plumber will help you. Knowing how something works and working on something are two worlds apart. Especially when you are in the field and things are corroded and/or missing. Their is no replacement for field experience!

Check with your local Citizens Advise Bereau they should give you some help and names of local areas where you can train. 4000 is too much you should be able to get something far much cheaper than that. Also look at other alternatives as well for example motor mechanics and building. There are some government sponsored colleges around. City and Guilds is the qualification you need.
