The plumber does not need to be corgi registered as he is not working on the gas boiler or any gas appliance.

Corgi is for registered gas fitters. In fact Corgi no longer valid and does not exist any more.

As for the cost, any handy man could have fixed the pipe problem, even a burst pipe for about £20 plus perhaps a call out charge of maybe another £20-£25.

Unfortunately is looks like you’ve been had. Try complaining and threatening to report them to trading standards and you may bet some joy. Don’t count on it though.

sounds like you were ripped off.they should have charged you whatever their call out fee is plus parts.its normally about £45-£60 per hour, and i would pursue that it took less than a hour and no parts were needed.

What were you told would be the charges before he started? If you agreed, then you pay the amount regardless of what he actually had to do to fix the problem

Don’t complain about it afterwards if you are not prepared to own a spanner or two

I agree that the charge sounds excessive. One issue is, where was the nut and how difficult was it to get access to it? Another is how far did he have to travel to get to your house? I have a pretty low opinion of plumbers and gas fitters since one charged me £85 for a washer, the next time the problem arose, I changed the whole unit for less than £10. I’d report him to trading standards, but don’t expect results.

I don’t know where you live but a union pipefitter gets payed $40.00 per hr. The contractor has to also pay his benefits witch is about another $20.00 add on the truck and some profit for the contractor and he is not to far off. You could hire a handy man for a lot cheaper.but if you don’t know the person or if he has not been recommended by some one you know you night not have a house when he is finished. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of good handymen out there just know what you are getting.
